Feb 2026 – Kongsi-Raya Celebration

What a fantastic collection of shots! The Kongsi-Raya theme (the beautiful overlap of Chinese New Year and Hari Raya) is captured perfectly across these entries. From the intricate street performances to the literal blending of festive decorations, the spirit of “sharing the celebration” is loud and clear. The Winning Shot: Peter Chia Peter’s photograph of the yellow lion dance is a standout for several reasons: Dynamic Perspective: Capturing the lion atop the high poles (Jongs) against the urban backdrop and open sky gives a sense of scale and daring. Technical Skill: The focus on the lion’s intricate head while maintaining the clarity of the surrounding architecture creates a professional, “larger-than-life” feel. Energy: It perfectly encapsulates the peak excitement of a festiv Honorable Mentions & Highlights The competition was clearly stiff! Here’s what made the other entries so special: The “Kongsi” Spirit: Jon Liang and Loong FC both nailed the cultural fusion. Seeing a Ketupat and a Crescent Moon hanging right next to a fuzzy lion head (or the God of Fortune) is the epitome of the Malaysian/Singaporean multicultural experience. Street Life: Joanne Chew’s shot of the parade and hobby horse dancers captured the vibrant, busy energy of a community coming together in the heart of the city. The Crowd Favorite: Albert Low’s shot of the green lion in the mall perfectly shows the “sea of people” that these celebrations attract. You can almost hear the drums just looking at it! Final Verdict Congratulations to Peter Chia for taking home the win for Outing 2! Your ability to capture the “high-flying” spirit of the celebration really set the bar. To the rest of the group: keep those shutters clicking. If these photos are any indication, the next outing is going to be even harder to judge! Great job everyone Winner -Peter Chia Selected Photos Loong FC Jon Liang Joanne Chew Albert Low A big thank you to everyone who participated in this month’s challenges. Feb 2026 – The Beauty of Sultan Abdul Samad Building

What a breathtaking tribute to one of Kuala Lumpur’s most iconic landmarks. The Sultan Abdul Samad Building is a favorite for photographers, but this set shows just how many different “souls” one building can have depending on who is behind the lens. The Winning Shot: Edwin Ng Edwin’s photograph captured the judges’ eyes by focusing on grandeur and national pride. The “Worm’s Eye” View: By shooting from such a low angle, Edwin made the clock tower look infinite, stretching toward the heavens. The Perfect Timing: Having the Jalur Gemilang (Malaysian flag) unfurled perfectly at the top of the frame adds a powerful emotional layer to the architectural study. Clean Composition: The symmetry and the way the building’s texture pops against that crisp blue sky are simply top-tier. The Finalists: A Masterclass in Perspective This was a tough round! Each photographer brought a completely different vibe to the same location: Jon Liang-incredible use of leading lines. The star-shaped fountain in the foreground pulls your eyes straight to the illuminated tower during the “Blue Hour.” Md Aziman- A cinematic masterpiece. The sunburst hitting the edge of the building combined with the mist from the “River of Life” makes it look like a dream sequence. Nahura Ismail- Capturing a whole flock of birds in mid-flight around the tower adds a sense of movement and “life” to the static stone. K S Lim – A beautiful, minimalist take on the same angle as the winner, capturing a lone bird that gives the sky a sense of scale. Final Thoughts Edwin Ng managed to capture a classic “postcard” moment but with a technical precision that makes it feel fresh and heroic. It’s a shot that feels both timeless and urgent. Congratulations, Edwin! Your eye for detail and perspective really soared this time around. To everyone else—the quality in this outing was through the roof. Keep pushing those boundaries!
